Move samples through the room
Place each sample near windows, in shaded corners and beside cabinet doors. Look at it in daylight and under the lamps you actually use at night. A finish that feels neutral in one spot may appear warmer or cooler against another surface.
Compare more than the color
Notice grain variation, texture and sheen. Ask whether the sample represents the full range of the collection, and request room images or additional boards if needed. A small piece may show the basic tone without revealing how much pattern changes across a larger floor.
Keep the shortlist focused
Choose a few finalists and compare them with the finishes that will stay. Take notes about why each option works rather than judging only by a phone photo. An in-home sample consultation can help turn a broad style preference into a more confident purchase.
Plan your next step
