Break irregular rooms into rectangles
Measure each rectangle separately and add the areas together. Record the units consistently and include closets or connected spaces that will receive the same flooring. Keep the sketch so another person can check the calculation instead of relying on a single total written on a phone.
Mark obstacles and transitions
Draw islands, doorways, fireplaces and stairs. These features influence plank direction and the pieces needed to complete the installation. They may not add much square footage, but they can add cuts and change how a pattern works across the room.
Confirm before ordering full boxes
Your measured area is only the starting quantity. The final order also depends on cutting allowance and coverage per carton. Have the installer verify the layout and measurements, then use the product calculator to translate the approved area into the correct number of boxes.
